The aesthetic beauty of metal
My metal series evolved from an early interest in abstract colour photography. I was excited by the rich variety of textures and colour found in rusting metals and the sculptural potential of the off-cuts.
Using the large sheets as backgrounds I set up transient still lives, which I record as photographs, each inspired by the location and the materials at hand. I use natural light to create deep shadows giving the strong sense of 3D. The colours are not in any way manipulated.
These photographs are the only permanent piece, there is little reference to scale, some pieces are tiny, some very large, letting each create its own boundaries, each a world in itself.
